Beetroot and horseradish Meat burger

Ingredients

  • meat mince 400g
  • red onion ½ small, grated
  • garlic salt 1 tsp
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • mature cheddar 4 slices
  • burger buns 4, halved and toasted
  • mayonnaise 4 tbsp mixed with 2 tbsp
  • soft lettuce leaves
  • horseradish cream

BEET RELISH

  • cooked beetroot 100g, diced
  • gherkins chopped to make 2 tbsp
  • red onion finely chopped to make 1 tbsp

Method

  • STEP 1

    Toss the relish ingredients and leave to sit.

  • STEP 2

    To make the burgers, put the mince, onion and garlic salt in a bowl. Season with pepper and mix well, then divide into four balls. Use a spatula to squash each into a flat patty.

  • STEP 3

    Brush each patty with oil then fry in a hot frying pan for 2 minutes on each side until cooked through. Add a slice of cheese to each burger and either cover the pan with a lid until it melts or flashes under a hot grill.

  • STEP 4

    Spread the toasted bun halves with the horseradish mayo. Top 1/2 of them with lettuce, a burger, then a spoonful of the relish. Top with the remaining bun halves and serve.
