Pottalam Biryani

INGREDIENTS
  

  • 1/2 Kg Chicken

  • 2 cup Basmathi rice

  • 4 nos Onions Sliced

  • 2 nos Tomatoes

  • 2 no. Green chili

  • nos Mint and coriander leaves Handful

  • Cloves, cinnamon, cardamom 2 each

  • Salt As per taste

  • Ghee and oil 2 tbsp

  • For Marination

  • 3/4 Cup Curd

  • 1 Tbsp Ginger garlic paste

  • 1 Tsp Red chilli powder

  • 3/4 Tsp Kashmiri chilli powder

  • 1/4 Tsp Garam masala

  • 1/2 Tsp Biriyani masala

  • 1 Tsp Salt

  • 2 Tsp Oil

Methods
 

  • In a bowl, add curd and ginger garlic paste which is mentioned in the marination.
  • Now add all the other ingredients which is mentioned in marination and mix well.

  • Next, add chicken pieces and mix well. Add little mint and coriander leaves.
  • Now add oil and rest for 30 mins.
  • In a pan add 2 liters of water and add spices which are mentioned above: cloves, cinnamon and cardamon with few mint and coriander leaves. Add required salt and boil water.
  • After the water boils, add soaked rice and few drops of oil. Cook till it is 3/4 th cooked.
  • Drain the water completely and keep separate.
  • In a pressure, pan add oil and fry 2 thinly sliced onion and keep aside. In the same pan add 2 thinly onions again and saute well.
  • Next, add green chilli and tomato, saute well.
  • Now add the marinated chicken along with masala and cook for 10 mins or until done.
  • Into the pressure cooker now add one layer of steamed rice and spread fried onion on top.

  • Next add a second layer of rice on top and spread some mint and coriander. Add few drops of colours(turmeric powder mixed in some water) and ghee. Next cook for 10 minutes.
  • Now take banana leaf and heat slightly. 
  • Now chicken biriyani has been almost done. Open the lid.
  • In meantime boil eggs.
  • Now keep two to three portions of biriyani in a banana leaf.
  • Next, add egg and chamanthi. Here I didn't keep chamanthi. And tie the bag with thread.

  • Now steam this banana bag in a steamer for 5 mins to absorb the flavors fully.
  • Now it's ready to serve pottalam chicken biriyani or kizhi chicken biriyani.
  • Enjoy the delicious and wholesome biriyani.
